Last week, we discussed how there is no such thing as “the cloud” — but instead, there are multiple types of cloud-based services that affect both your production and your protection strategies. Even if we just focus on Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) or Disaster-Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS), or the use of cloud-based storage in complement to an on-premises backup solution, it is hugely important to not presume that those cloud-providers are equitable.
Said with some sarcasm and hyperbole, even though we may be just faceless and interchangeable subscriber IDs to (some) cloud providers, you should not think of cloud providers as faceless or interchangeable facilitators of data protection.
